Reproductive medicine in numbers
In the Czech Republic, assisted reproduction is monitored by the National Assisted Reproduction Registry. Unfortunately, the registry’s data is not generally available, and besides it’s all in Czech. The registry keeps track of information on the forms, course, and outcomes of assisted reproductions, as well as any complications. The data is mainly intended for healthcare personnel, the Ministry of Health, health insurers, and international reports. In other words, not for the general public.
Interesting European numbers on assisted reproduction can be found on the website of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology. The text is available in English, French, Spanish, and Italian.
For an overview of assisted reproduction around the world, check out IVF-Worldwide.com, specifically the page on the global perspective. Here you will find statistics on the number of IVF cycles or on the costs of IVF in various countries. Since such data is extremely difficult to gather and the website’s operator cannot force the individual countries to provide accurate information, I suggest taking the published figures as representing estimates, not cold hard fact.
